But really. Why IS recycling plastic so complicated? Plastic is plastic, right? Unfortunately not. If you’ve ever looked closely at the bottom of a plastic item, you will notice a triangular symbol with arrows that enclose a number, and typically an acronym below that. It just so happens I have a plastic bottle at my desk. It may be hard to see, but this one has a number 1 with the letters PETE below. I also have a plastic cup labeled with a number 7.
Great, right? But what do these numbers mean?? Brace yourself, there are some big words coming up….
